Craps Glossary

Whenever you play any casino game, it is a good idea to be familiar with the correct terminology. Using the correct terms not only makes you sound more professional, it also ensures that you have done your homework and understand the jargon surrounding the game. Understanding the correct terminology makes you increase your knowledge, play more confidently and as a result also improves your game. The following basic craps glossary will get you started.

Any Craps – wagers that the next roll will be one of the craps numbers (2, 3 and 12) in any combination

Any Seven – wagers that the next roll will be 7 in total in any combination

Big Eight –bets that an 8 will be rolled before a 7

Big Six – bets that a 6 will be rolled before a 7 is rolled

Big Red – wagers that the next roll will be a 7

Buy Bet – This ensures the player is paid fair odds, with a 5% commission paid

Come Bet – Placed after the Come Out roll, this wager needs a 7 or 11 to be rolled to win initially, and will lose if a 3, 11 or 12 are rolled. All other numbers establish a point and from then on if the point is rolled, the bet wins but if a 7 is rolled it will lose.

Come Out Roll – The first dice roll in any betting round which determines the outcome of the Pass Line and Don’t Pass bets, or establishes the point.

Don’t Come bet – Placed only after the Come Out Roll. A 2 or 3 will make this bet win initially whereas a 12 will draw, and a 7 or 11 will make it lose. If a point in established, then it needs a 7 to be rolled to win whereas the point number will make this bet lose.

Don’t Pass Bet – Placed on the Come Out Roll, this bet needs a 2 or 3 to be rolled to win. If a 12 is rolled it will draw, and if a 7 or 11 are rolled it loses. Once a point is established, the roll of this point number before a 7 will make the bet lose. A 7 is required to win once the point number is established.

Field bet – a single roll bet which bets that the next roll will be a field number (2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12)

Hardway Bet – a wager that pairs totalling 4, 6, 8 or 10 will be rolled before a 7

Hi-Lo Bet – a single roll bet that needs the next roll of the dice to be a 2 or 11

Pass Line Bet – Placed on the Come Out Roll. If a 7 or 11 are rolled it wins but if a 3, 11 or 12 are rolled it loses. Any other number establishes the point; and now if the point number is rolled the bet will win but a 7will make it lose.

Place Bet – a multiple roll bet which wagers that a place number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10) will be rolled before a 7
